Gen testing is where you uses a genetic scanner to see all the traits the pet has, including carried and hidden, which won't show up without a genetic scan. THey're SUPER helpful when doing projects.

How do you use the genetic scanner on the pet? It's telling me it can only be used in battle...

Then you don't have the right one. Some can be used in battle to scan your enemy, other's are used for genetics. If you get 1.5k diamonds, you can buy one or you can use services from other people.
