Scias poked the button without any hesitation, both as a test of her honesty and out of sheer morbid curiosity.

Corasi fell to the ground, fully unconscious.

"Huh. Guess you weren't playing around."

Scias knelt down to look over the device. He hadn't seen anything like it before. He wanted to pull it out and look it over himself, but the way it was embedded into the skin made the idea of trying to pry it out look like a no-go. One wrong slip and his electricity would probably hotwire her right into a living bomb. What a weird thing for a kid to end up with.

She woke up. "Ugh... You touched it, didn't you?" She rubbed her neck. "Don't try to pull it out, trust me I've tried. It's so embedded in my skin that I can't actually get it out."

"Not only that, looks completely useless." He stood back up, brushing his armor off slightly, shaking his head.
"You said a bunch of Protectors gave it to you? You sure about that? This looks like something a human'd stick in a lab rodent or something to make it do a bunch of tricks. Anyone hack your brain and make you run through a maze lately?"

"Haha. I don't know, a bunch of aliens came into my house wearing protector clothing. It might be exterminator, I don't know and I don't really care. I'm just stuck with it." She stood back up and put her hair in a ponytail.

"I mean, if it was any of them, they would have just shot or captured you. Seems like a lot of work for something so pointless." He looked back at the colony from the trees, whistling at the airship making short work of now-blazing buildings.
"Kinda like that actually. Quick and easy."

"As I said, I still believe it was from protectors. Honestly, they can gain control of me by doing it. Where's your little drone, anyway?" She started scanning the sky for the little drone she had seen before.

As if on cue, the drone landed on Scias' head. Some of its metal wingtips looked warped or scorched, but overall, it seemed no worse for the wear. Its red eyes seemed to glow menacingly as it studied Corasi with a slight tilt of its head.

"Biological lifeform detected. No threat detected. Greetings, human."

Scias winced a bit at the robot bird's talons and guided it down to his shoulder. "Hey, buddy. Did you see the captain? Is she looking for me?"

"Affirmative, Zeizan. For now, you have been presumed to have been felled in the fray." The bird chirped back.

"Well, at least it'd buy us time. She figures out my body's not out there, good chance they'll try to track me."

Corasi watched this exchange with a confused and curious face. "Zeizan, huh? Can I guess he's your friend? I think I should go anyway. It'd be safer for you."
