yawning to myself i step out of the apartment building and on to the street, making my way to my car. my tail twitches as i take in the scents of the day. despite having a tail since i was six, it's still a bit odd some times.

pulling my keyfob from my pocket i click the button to unlock the door, pulling it open and setting my coffee in the cupholder. fumbling with the books tucked under my elbow, i silently curse myself as i drop all of them on the ground.

stooping down to pick them up, i'm suddenly blinded by a bright light. it's searing, making me wince and shield my eyes against the bright light, beginning to panic. what's going on!? the only thing i can think of that is anything remotely like this was ten years ago, and i ended up growing ears and a tail. is something like that going to happen again?

I notice the light as I was planting my potatoes in my garden. I cover my eyes to block some of the light, I look around to see if someone else notices it. My ears go down as my tail stopes moving. I think to myself I've seen this before but maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me or maybe the sun is just really strong today. I put on my sunglasses and water my garden. When finished with my garden, I walk down the street looking for people but I cant see anyone because the light is to strong.

when the light finally fades around five minutes later, i crack my eyes open, seeing everyone around me doing the same. quickly, i look over myself. i don't feel any different. i quickly pull my handheld mirror out of my purse, checking myself out in the mirror. nope, i look the same.

quickly grabbing everything off the ground i shove it in the passengers seat, climbing in the drivers seat and pulling the door closed, locking it. taking a deep breath, i rest my head on the steering wheel, trying to calm myself. i'm fine. everything's fine. right?

I ask people if they know what happened and why that light came back but no one knows why. I take my sunglasses off, I go inside my house to change my clothes, I put on a button up shirt with ripped jeans and a cowboy hat. I walk to the park being stupid like every other day I decide to walk in the road. I listen to music thats turned up all the way so I can hardly hear anything. I notice I still have my eras and tail and that everything seems to be normal.

with one last deep breath i sit up. this is fine, i can deal with this.

i cast a sidelong glance at the books in the seat beside me. no use going to class now. what i really need is some fresh air to clear my head, i'll just go to the park and take a walk and i can think about this rationally.

clicking the small button below the steering wheel, i start the car, pulling away from the curb and onto the street. luckily for me, no one else seems to be too interested in driving, so i don't have to fight traffic to get to the park, making what is normally a twenty minute drive into a ten minute drive.

the moment i pull into the parking lot, i'm out of my car, leaving it in the first open spot and making my way to the nearest bench, coffee in hand. i'm so busy trying to talk myself out of my fears, that i don't realize i'm about to collide with someone until it's too late.

"i am so sorry!" i say, wincing as i look at him on the ground. "here let me help you up" i say, extending my hand out towards him. at least i didn't spill coffee on him.

"It's alright Ma'am, did u get hurt?" I take ur hand as I stand up, I dust off my clothes. I look at you worried.
"I didnt hurt ya did I?" I put my phone in my pocket. "Please Ma'am if there is anything I can do to make it up to ya just let me know." I right my number on a piece of paper and hand it to you.

"im fine" i say, accepting the slip of paper from him. "just, uh, one question. did that whole 'blinding light' thing happen over here too or was it just over there?" i ask nervously. if it was location specific its probably bad, but if it was everywhere...yeah no probably also bad. i can't quite think of anything good that could come out of this.

"Ma'am I saw the light at my house to I thought it was only at my house. I dont know whats going on but it cant be good. And are you sure ur ok we bumped into each other pretty hard." I say as I hold my hat.

"i'm fine, don't worry" i say, giving him an awkward thumbs up. "i have no idea what's going on either" i admit. "i feel the same though, is anything different with you?"

"My ears hurt a little but other then that im fine." I say as my ears are still down.
