Exposition Before the war were the times where a nightmare was sweet release from the horrors of the waking world. Days so very dark that the elders tremble at the mention of it. The Dark Ages.
In this time, the magic of the universe was untamed and wild, nearly limitless, but in these times, the necromancers arose. These creatures could raise the dead and use them to their own will without a single drawback. Thousands of the dead were risen, creating an army to tremble at.
Even the most powerful sorcerers couldnt defeat these beings. So many hid and prayed these power-hungry monsters wouldnt find them, but usually, they were found

Chapter 1
Rurx stood in her little shack of a library, holding books in her clawed hands. She dung her claws into the covers of the books, tense. This was the hour of bloodshed, where the undead were the most active and hungry. Rurx twitched her fuzzy ears listening for the unmistakable groans of an undead.
BANG!
Rurx jumped and turned only to see her roommate, Pquri, holding at least two sacks of soiled bread and cans of soup.
"Jesus! Pquri! Wasnt expecting you back so early! Dont you usually wait the Blood Hours out?" Rurx stuttered, collecting her nerves.
"Sorry, just grabbed a good deal and didnt want anyone to steal it." Pquri said, catching her breath. She had clearly been running.
Rurx sat down, detaching the books from her long black claws, wrapping her stripped fluffy tail around the chair legs. Pquri took the other seat, her green smooth skin clashing with the dusty brown room.
"So, while I was gone, anything happen?" Pquri asked, biting into a soiled piece of bread.
"Not really. Just organizing the shelves." Rurx said, putting her paws in her fluffy black hair.
"I do suppose nothing would really happen here." Pquri said, her mismatched red and yellow eyes looking around.
Rurx stared at the table, knowing there wasnt much to talk about, except the war. But, then again, talking about the war only made them both miserable.
"So how did you even get all this food? I know the food merchants arent very generous these times." Rurx asked, moving her view away from the table.
"Well... he knew we have opened up to refugees and wanted us to have spare, just in case." Pquri said, pulling a maggot out her bread.
Rurx just looked at Pquri sadly. They both knew this war wasn't ever going to end in their lifetimes.
"Well, it is getting late. We might as well head to bed." Rurx said, getting up.
"Ok, I'll board up the doors tonight since you did it yesterday." Pquri said, grabbing some worn old wood planks and hammering the door off. The windows were permanently boarded up a long time ago.
Rurx crawled to the top of a bookshelf with a little loft just big enough for her to squeeze into. The loft consisted of a pile of blankets and a pillow. It wasnt much, but compared to the life of others, this was luxury. Rurx shut the little rag curtain of her loft and shut her massive blue eyes. She slowly drifted to a dreamless sleep, blanking out the screams and groans from outside.

Chapter 2
Rurx woke up early, as usual, as her species was most active in mornings. She crawled down from her loft and cleaned up the library, as if anyone were to visit, the morning would be the time. The mornings were when Rurx felt the safest. The undead were still looking for the nights victims, which meant they werent too near the town, either returning to their master or looking for the victim that was bitten.
Rurx grabbed a pan and started making a meal you could call breakfast. She grabbed the freshed pieces of bread, one for her and another for Pquri. One was moldy, soggy, and grey, while the other was infested with bugs. Gulping, Rurx chose the bug bread. In her culture, bugs were often considered fine dining, but even this was gruesome. She grilled the bread, killed the creatures inside. Rurx then grilled Pquris bread, leaving it as warm, moist bread. Almost perfect, if it wasnt for the mold.
Rurx sunk her sharp teeth into the bread, crunching with every bug she caught with her teeth. She quickly gulped the foul meal down, chugging water afterwards to get the sickly taste out her mouth.
Pquri opened the cabinet door, revealing her room. It was a long sideways cabinet with a pile of rags and blankets, like Rurxs. This morning Pquris skin had changed to a soft pink with little yellow dots.
"Is that breakfast? Wow, you really do care." Pquri said, leaning on the counter near Rurx.
"Sure..." Rurx said, leaning in towards Pquri, flicking her shoulder, making sure she didn't knick her with her claw.
"Hey!" Pquri said playfully.
Pquri started munching on her bread, trying to ignore the moldy flavor. Out of nowhere, there was a loud banging on the door.
"Ack!" Rurx snarled, before calming down and walking up to the door. She undid the boarding and looked out to see a young scorpono their age, around nineteen, at their door.
"Hello?" He asked.
"What do you want?" Rurx replied cooly.
"I heard this place was taking in refugees." The young scorpono said back. His shorts were rags and held together with a rope and he had only a rope slung across his shoulder for a sack.
"Yeah." Pquri said from the back, her face still stuffed with bread.
"Really?! Ive been looking for a place for weeks! Im Vsan and- and!" He could barely hold in his happiness, since he was finally accepted into a place. There was a lot of rumors about scorpono that kept them out of refugee homes.
"Well congrats, you've found a place. I'm Rurx, the owner of this place." Rurx said, lightening her tone.
Vsan looked so happy that he could cry. He gave Rurx a hug and walked inside. Rurx looks VERY uncomfortable.
"Ok, Vsan, clearly we need to set some rules Rule number one! You will not touch my stuff or me. Rule number two. You may only eat when serve up. I dont want you eating our stash, because food these days are hard to get. Three! Do not bother me while Im working! And finally, rule number four. For the love of stars, PLEASE do not unboard the windows. I know its dark, but thats better then death!" Rurx said, looking annoyed and worried, due to having her very first refugee.
"Ok woman, jeez." Vsan said, taken aback by Rurxs angry tone. He put his small collection of items on the side. Vsan only had a few things. A wooden bowl, a bag of wild nuts, and a pendant.
"Ok Vsan, you can stay in the bed we prepared for our first refugee." Pquri said, being as welcoming as possible. She lead him to a pile of rags in an old crate.
Vsan looks pleased. "Its better then the streets!"
Rurx looks back at Vsan, realizing everything would be different now. New benefits. New adventures. And new threats...
