Okay I have something that I know I'm not going to use and want to give it to someone. How do I trade it with them?

In your inventory, above the use item button there is this small icon by clicking on it you will get the trade option. Items comming from the advent calender cannot be traded.

To bounce off what Cian said - when you hover your mouse over an item in your inventory, somewhere in the description box will say either "Tradeable" or "Not Tradeable".
You will not be able to send Not Tradeable items - you will have to sell them from your inventory (right-clicking) or use them.
