umm this is a dumb question but can i use multiple ecences to be able to get more points so i can add more genes or can u only use one at a time?

No; but you can create multiple pets with multiple essences, or you can purchase a higher quality essence to obtain more traits. :)

I have a generator related question as well. Is there a way to come by essence in the game or is it strictly a diamond purchase?

Yes!
How you can obtain essences:
-Nurturing (Completely random. You could get two in a row, or none after 1,000 nutures.)
-Battling (Veeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrry rare. I've still had it happen though!)
-Trade Broker (Just save up!)
-Event Prizes (Depends on if Krin does something with essences or not.)

a complete list of ways essences can be found can be seen in the guide to generator essences along with other information
The most TP an essence can allow you to generate is 4tp- 4 carry, or 2 carry/1 vis, or 2 vis- using either an enhanced or mystical essence
