Intro

This story is part of the backstory for my characters in Darkishcold's roleplay The Runaways. While everything written here is mine, not all character's will belong to me (I will add a note at the start and end of the post if a character who is owned by someone other than me appears) and the setting plot belongs to Darkishcold. This is just to give more background for my characters, including how they learned about the government's use of the brain chip, their prep for running away, and how they know the other characters in the roleplay. focusing on Asuriel. I wasn't sure if I should put this here or in Fanfiction, so, yeah. The story will start in my next post, but I figured I should start with this. Thank you for reading my work, and feel free to PM me with suggestions for how I can improve my writing. please don't ping me in this thread though please. This first post isn't finished either, the first part of the story won't be posted until I finish this.

Note: This chapter involves Darkishcold's character Nellie, found on the first post in this sign up thread. Obviously, I do not own this character and do not claim them. All credit and respect to Darkishcold. Now on to the story.

Asuriel was sitting at a table in the local library, where one of her friends was telling her something that seemed a lot like a wild conspiracy theory.


"So, you're claiming the government uses the brain chips to, what? Make people do stuff?" Asuriel couldn't really belive what she was hearing. Nellie was nearly a year older than her, and a grade above, this was crazy talk.

"Or not do stuff. Look, you know my older sister, she hardly does anything that she used to. She's not acting herself." Nellie argued

"It could just be teenage moodiness. She's been upset before"

"Never without reason. And not like this is my point. Look, Themis is getting his chip soon, right? Trust me, you'll see it then" Asuriel shook her head.

"Okay. Whatever you say. I'll watch for significant, permanent changes in Themis. But I'm sure this is fake."

Nellie shrugged "You'll see" she repeated.


Later that night, Asuriel couldn't stop thinking about that conversation. Sbe considered asking her parents, seeing if how they acted had changed after getting the brain chip, but if Nellie was right that would just cause more trouble. She tried to clear her head and focus on sleeping. She could focus on testing Nellie's theory in a few days.
