Do you get anything from releasing pets? A lot of people say don't buy just so you can release them, but why would you bother to spend the gold and buy them when you're just going to release them again?

1. trying to manage the economy and keep pet worth up is one reason for buy-and-release
2. releasing pets over 42 days old increases the chance that you will get a nest spawn in the lost grove
(3. during the patriotic event releasing pets that are over 42 days adds to your Druid score and your overall rank score)

A lot of people will buy very cheap pets and release them to try to help the pet economy. Sometimes it might be because they have similar pets and are trying to keep their pet's worth.
However, I do wish there were more immediate benefits to releasing pets, rather than the LG nest bonus. Not everyone is in the LG (or wishes to go) and even when you are? it takes so many pets to really make a difference, to me it isn't worth it without a different benefit (such as the patriotic event mentioned) to doing so.
Not something like you get gold for releasing pets, but just more like nurturing where you can randomly find things by releasing pets. (nurturing you can occasionally get essences by nurturing)
