The Sapphire Dragon
Chapter 1
Corasi
Corasi drew a breath and the salty air filled her lungs. The sun glinted off her sapphire blue scales and her dark blue horns were as sharp as ever. Her wings had bits of white flecked in with the lighter blue. Her dull white claws were hidden from the little dragonling's body. She stared out the cliff face, out of the cave she called home, and looked at the waves crashing against the side below her. The waves looked so inviting, it couldn't hurt to take a dip right? After listening for other dragons roars, flying, and walking she jumped in. The saltwater filled her lungs quickly, though it hadn't bothered her. She could breathe easily down here and she almost blended in with the blue water. It was a safe place for her to hide. As one of the last gemstones, she had to stay away from the edge and dragons. She promised to Manori and Derekai she wouldn't go out before dark.
She looked up at the clear blue sky and went towards the "forcefield" surrounding the entire Island. The entire purpose was to keep things from getting in... and out. She wanted to melt into the water. After swimming for five minutes she flew back up to the ledge that lead towards the cave. Inside she saw her sister and brother talking.
"Ah, Cor, you came back. We were just talking about you. How was your swim?"
"It was fine. Could you tell me about the riders and the war again, Nori?"
"Really? I've told you those stories a million times."
"I just... want to freshen my memories. They're also good stories."
Manori looked quickly at Derekai and he nodded, headed to the front of the cave, and flew off. "Eighty years ago dragons came to Dragon's Heaven. The dragons had stopped terrorizing and killing all they saw. They stopped their savage ways and decided to be at peace with each other and all other beings. They formed a government with a Queen leading it all. The gemstones and metals were at peace for a while but they soon grew jealous of each other. Tensions grew between them and the Queen was scared of a war breaking out under her watch. The metals started complaining to her that the land was originally theirs and that they had found it first, and that the Quartz, Rubies, Emeralds, Amethysts, Sapphires, and Turquoises were milking off of their find. Meanwhile, the gemstones were complaining that the Coppers, Bronzes, Golds, Silvers, Leads, and Graphites were jealous that they had found this island. Fifty years after the Queen had taken the throne, she died. A new Queen was crowned and 20 years later, after she had Derekai, you, and I, the tensions between the two had peaked. An all out war started and our mother, Queen Kua-Rashianaka, had told us to protect you as the gemstones were already losing. As the dragons started fighting more and more the dragons became more and more savage," Manori paused for a moment as a roar rang out above the cave. Corasi looked up at her expectantly and when Manori thought the dragon had definitely left she started to tell her the story again. "Their fire came back and their thirst for blood came with it. The metals soon decimated the gemstones. In fact, last time I checked, Cor, you were the last one. Which is why we have to keep you extra safe now. The metals know you exist, and they'll stop at nothing to find you."
Corasi sighed, "I know. I'll only go outside at night under the trees." Defeated she stared at the salty water lapping on the cliff side. "But what about the riders?"
"Ah yes. You did ask about them as well, didn't you? Well, some humans decided to start training dragonlings after they hatched. Dragons developed a link with their humans that let them feel exactly what their humans feels... and their sanity. When a rider had gone crazy, their dragon became crazy as well. The dragon became a new breed called the shadow dragons. They were insane and they tried to destroy everyone. After that happened and the humans thought the shadow dragons were dead,

After Manori and Derekai fell asleep, Corasi tried to sneak out of the cave. Be quiet. Don't let anyone notice you. If anyone sees you, you're a rock. She walked to the ledge and quickly flew up into the forest above their cave. It was one of the only places on the island that wasn't burnt to a crisp. The island had turned into a barren wasteland. She went towards a small clearing and stayed close to the trees.
