Every time I sell off a gaggle of relics, bracelets, armor etc, I kind of wish I had some kind of transmutation machine I could go to, dump a load of these in, and get a random something back. Other games have something like this, where you put chips in and get gradually nicer and nicer gems, till eventually you can crate a "perfect stone", or where you can add gems to weapons to create buffs on weapons or more powerful ones.
Since we don't really equip pets with weapons, in this case I think it would be more for turning lower level relics into higher level relics, with a chance of adding the mitigations on the side (say, if you meld two of the exact same item, you get a chance at adding mitigations, or something.) This could be a way of creating epic and legendary pieces gradually from collecting then merging lower level items.
It might also boost the sellability of the lower level stuff, if you can use it, and use it up, to make higher level items.
Or maybe it would be a way to create, through certain "recipes" different avatar items and such as well. So if you have a zombie arm, a white pumpkin and a scarecrow costume, you could create a headless horseman outfit or something. Or in this current season, three turkey feathers could be combined to create a pair of special turkey wings or a turkey tail. That kind of thing.
People would be able to look for new recipes when they came out, trade both finished items and ingredients. It would help boost the in game economy by creating more uses for things that you can collect and use.
Just and idea. I would love to have a spot you could go to do this.

I think this is a really good idea. Maybe the ingredients wouldn't be so simple, but I do get your point. I do think that crafting was supposed to be something the admins were thinking about adding into the game later on; maybe your idea could be integrated into a part of their crafting idea. That would be really cool to have more uses for the, otherwise, useless items that we get from battling and missions.

Yeah, when doing the mushroom quest and picking up mushrooms all over Esior's Fields, I was thinking at the time it would be nice if I cold cook these into potions or elixers to use later. Instead they kind of just kept accumulating cause I didn't use them much. I almost never heal outside the battle arena, so they just sit there. Crafting or some kind of transmuting machine where you could use these to make something more powerful would be a good thing.
Most of these in games where they work, you usually have two kinds of items that are needed for general recipes- common stuff makes mostly slightly less common but more useful stuff. Add in something a little more rare and you get a rarer item, usually after having to use quite a few common things to build up to that (as in, 3 gem shards make a chipped gem. 3 chipped gems make an imperfect gem. 3 Imperfect gems make a gem. 3 gems make a perfect gem. Add a perfect gem to a ring and you get a buff on that ring. Or you can hunt for something rare like a limited time Turkey feather, add it to a common cloak, and get something like the turkey tail, only craftable for a limited time, so rare even if the drops are relatively common- though honestly I am not getting anything out of old Tom here. Just "almost missed" every time.)
If this were something they added in, then they could also add in rare and uncommon drops that could be used in the crafting/transmuting of things, so it could still keep rare things rare, and use up more common things. But not everything needs or should be rare. Some stuff should be common enough everyone could get it without too much fuss.
