so i just got an essence because a nice player whom i trick or treated gave it to me, and I'm not sure if I should use it or not. what do you guys think?

I think you should keep it. Maybe find a few more. Find a design you really, really like or do some research and start a project. You don't want to make a decision that you'll regret later, and it's very easy to regret generating a pet and then later seeing all of the things you could have done differently.
