Whenever I click a location on the map, it doesn't do anything. Why's this?

You can't explore until you complete the tutorial up to that point. The tutorial is the box in the bottom right of every page.

Follow along and it will guide you to exploring and battling.

You can find pets in the wild, purchase them from various shops, breed them, or buy them from other players.

You can also find essences throughout the game that allow you to generate more pets.
