I am literally making up this idea as I type since it just came to mind. xD
Anyways, I think it would be awesome to have something like a Pet Olympics. Where you can train your pets in various activities to compete in.
Such as racing, strength, intelligence etc. and a PVP Gym. There would be Beginners, Novice & Advanced. Each wins certain prizes ranging from gold to items. There should also be prizes for people who get on the Leaderboard and monthly competitions for certain prizes such as philters, rare relics for your pets and large gold prizes.
The competitions are multi-categorized, categories being Species, Sport and Proficiencies.
Species competitions are divided in each species. Sub categories do not change, all species have access to all sports and proficiency competitions.. + one competition unique to each species :D
Sports range from swimming, climbing, racing...and others anyone can add xD
Proficiency Competitions are where the pets compete based on their proficiency points. In proficiency competitions you can choose whether you would like to put your pet in a Mixed competition or strictly to one proficiency area.
Pets who beat Advanced would go on to a final Stadium to compete against either other Users pets and NPCs.
Forgot to add, They should also be able to win medals and trophies. :D

We've always wanted to do 'contesting' (if you ever have played PonyIsland), but with a more structured system and more advanced features.
Basically, there would be contests that you can enter pets into for a fee. Your pet then goes up against various other player's pets and ultimately there is a winner based on w/e the competition is for. The winner would then be awarded gold/prizes.
However, I probably would say something like that wouldn't begin being worked on until after we finish the planned original 10 regions.
But I definitely think something like this will be added in the future.

Oh gosh, ponyisland was my favorite game for a long time. Hearing that from an admin excites me xD I'm totally willing to wait.
