The neighborhood kids are running free through the woods, having fun and doing whatever they want.


Beau knew the woods is where all the kids went to play, that's what his step sister said. He knew he could go find April and hang out with her, but she was with her own friends, and probably wouldn't want her younger stepbrother handing around.

His Dad promised they could build his own treehouse this summer, but first he had to find a tree, so he figured he would do that until he made some friends.

Alice was sitting at the end of her backyard, staring off blankly into the forest. She oh so wanted to go have fun with all the other kids whom she could hear laughing and playing.. but the mere thought of it made her trace her hand gently over her covered arm an shutter. She was too afraid she might be attacked by a dog out there..

Jay made her way through the trees, carefully estimating her next move. Her brother was busy so she was bored. She made her way to a lower branch and lept out of it, her poncho making it look like she had blue-grey wings. He landed hap-hazardly on a boulder. Her hair was a ruffled mess, feathers of any kind sticking from it. She plopped down, pulling out her notepad and doodling.

As Baeu walked along the backyard fences, he noticed someone sitting there.

*Hey, why arent you playing in the forest? Did you get grounded? What kinda stunt did you pull?* Beau asked, leaning on the fence at he tried to talk to Alice.

Holly set her backpack down at the foot of a tree. She pulled her goggles down over her eyes and readjusted the clearly unstable set of wings she had made at home the day before. After a short pause, she began to climb up the tree. She had chosen this tree as it was the tallest she knew of that was not overrun by other kids. She made it to the highest sturdy branch. She sat down and did a few more adjustments. When these work, I will become famous! she said quietly to herself. She then put her hand through the sleeves on either side of the pair of wings. She stopped herself. Will I get in trouble? Mum and dad might be angry. What if? No. This will work, I am sure of it. Maybe I should wait though. Just a little while. she mumbled. She sat there, lost in thought, staring at the ground.

Alice startled slightly as she was asked a question, and looked over to the boy who had spoken. " O-Oh... I am not grounded, I am just a little nervous about what's in that forest is all.. " She said with a sheepish half-smile, nervous about what could be there.. she didn't really want to find out. She didn't mind most anything, just certain things.

*I get scared of things in the woods too, dont tell anyone, but Im terrified of spiders, I freak out every time I see one... Hey, I dont have any friends to hang out with here, do you wanna come with me?* Beau asked, hoping the girl would accept and be his friend. *I promise to protect you from whatever is out there in the woods... unless its spiders, then its everyone for themselves* he said, mostly jokingly

Alice giggled a little bit, she found it just the slightest bit amusing that he was so scared of spiders. " Sure.. I don't mind having someone to tag along with. I would feel a lot more safe like that anyway. " Alice said before standing, " My name is Alice by the way. "

*Im Beau! Im kind of new to the neighborhood, my step sister told me that the woods is where everyone hung out, and my dad said he would build me a treehouse out here, just like the one I used to have, and I might need your help picking a good tree, plus it would be nice to have someone to hang out in the treehouse with* Beau said, excited that he was making a new friend.

" You're new too? I moved here recently.. Also, I bet there is a perfect tree somewhere in the forest and would be very happy to help you pick one. "
