You can get as many diamonds as you want. There's 3 ways to get them.
Buy them from other players (usually with gold) via the currency exchange
Buy them from the site with USD via the diamond shop
Win them in a forum game during a fest

I'd suggest looking at the Trade Broker values of the items you have to trade, and then work out the diamond equivalent (generally the conversion is ~2000 gold = 1 diamond)
