A human soul either goes to heaven, or hell. Those who lived their lives truly may go up to the heavens, but those who are corrupted, they may never be allowed entry.
Reapers are born from evil human souls who have potential. Twelve every hundred years is chosen, and they are given a scythe. Now, reapers are known to take souls down to hell, but these reapers have another important job. They keep human souls away from the grasp of demons and witches, and any other beings who desire them for power. It keeps the balance, and lets those souls be judged as they should be.
In turn, the reapers have to forget everything about their previous lives. Their memories and wishes before death are wiped, and they become blank slates. Constantly needing to be renewed since reapers are killed constantly, there are a steady amount of souls to choose from, but only the best are chosen to be reapers, as they report to the head of hell themselves, and you all know who that is.

Now, here we have an idea. Demons are known to make contracts quite often, so if you take a demon soul and contract it with a reaper, won't the reapers last longer? Demon souls are kept in separate storage, and it's time some were used. The new batch of twelve reapers now gets a special scythe, one who is contracted to a demon. All batches of reapers are given a nickname, and these special twelve, the 5000th division has been dubbed "The Soul Snatchers".

As for demons, twelve have been chosen for this so called test run. There are rules for your resurrection though, and you may keep your memories, although you are very limited. Your rules will be stated at the time of making your contract.

Now begins resurrection for demons and soon-to-be reapers.
