I recomend not getting any pets at ALL in the beginning. once you reach higher lvls its easier to get gold. otherwise you might end up with a full stable of not-that-good looking pets and end up unable to feed them.

it just...personally makes me very sad when I see full stables of starving pets :(

I would recommend keeping an eye on some of the giveaways on the unofficial games thread. There are quick ways to get pets free pretty often, especially if you are good at coming up with names. "Name a pet, get a pet" type contests are pretty common. There are also plenty of other giveaways. Try replying to some of those, as creating your own thread like this does paint you as a bit of a beggar. I'm pretty new to the site myself, and if you take a look in my stables, I feel that I have a good number of pets, considering. I got them through a combination of exploring and doing quests as well as checking the unofficial games thread frequently for contests and giveaways. The other thing that you can do (though it is more time consuming) is nurture other people's eggs and hatchlings to earn scales, which can then be traded for eggs in the scale shop.

I'm not quite sure what you're on about with the whole fee deal, but I'm guessing you want people to pay you for the cost of feeding your pets and purchasing stable space? If money is an issue, I recommend doing the exploration thing to the point where you can accept missions, since that's probably the fastest way of getting coins. If you want young pets to grow faster, you can also post them to the Official Nurture Thread (having other users nurture your pets will cause them to mature faster). I suppose this all depends on what sort of thing you are trying to do with these pets. You mention breeding and selling pets, which is great, but I'm wondering what exactly your plan is so I can try to give the most relevant advice.
