i have pets that cost 1 coin need room for the dragons

Hello, there. I am interested in buying your pets in stalls 1, 4, 5, 7, 9, and 14. Do I have to have extra pet slots in order to gain more pets first? If so, how would I go about doing that? I am new to the game even though I joined in 2016.
