in terms of the elven ones you can get from the eggs in the shop, are the colors random? or can/do you pick them?

Themed pets are pets that have specific colors chosen by the site admin. This pet, for example, is also a themed. Note the purple theme name above the genes at the bottom. All pets of the same theme will have approximately the same colors in the same slots (ex. See how this pet and this pet are the same theme but the same colors). If you want to add the Elven traits to a pet with colors of you're choosing you'll have to use the Elven Trait Disrupter. Or just breed them into a pet I suppose.
