Is there a way to purchase gold, like diamonds? Or a fairly easy way to make them?

You can't directly purchase gold but you can use the curencie exchange to trade diamonds for gold with others players. One diamond is worth on average between 1500 and 2500g depending on how long you are willing to wait to get gold from it.
Otherwise, you can make yourself some missions pets to colect gold quicker. There is a guide to make gold in the sylestia codex, in the guide section ^-^
