What is a golden egg? I've heard it's an item, but what does it do?

A golden egg is an egg you can buy for 1,000 scales in the scale shop. It will hold a random item/essence in it. I think it can also have a seasonal item if it's that season.

I just wanted to confirm that Marsadin is correct in that during special events and holidays it can contain event items
