The last 4 sylesti that I have attempted to capture while in battle have disappeared as if I have captured them but when I check stables they are not there. I haven't killed them because i've only used a snare against them. Do they run away? or is this a bug? Sucks to use snares without any gain.

Yes, sometimes they run away.
Sometimes they run away a lot.

@Hairyleggs,
You can check the combat log after you use a trap to see if it succeeded or failed. But yes, they can run away on a failed trap.
