I've been trying to defeat this arena encounter for a while, but even when I seem to do everything perfectly (move the pet affected with the debuff that makes the pet immune to frozen to the centre, then have everyone block just in case), Meteor just nukes the pet in my number 1 slot in one single hit, even when that pet blocks. This doesn't seem like it's supposed to happen.
Is there something I'm missing here?

Yep. It's part of the encounter.
You can probably find a guide or more information from another player if you want to. But such things are not things I will reveal publicly. =P
