Long ago, four great beasts ruled the elements-- earth, air, water, and fire. With their own unique talents they kept the world in balance. That was, until a new element emerged. From out of the realm of legends, a darkness took shape. The guardians of the four elements rallied together in order to fight and fight they did. Although they defeated the beast of darkness, it came at great cost. The legendary beings lost their own strength in the final blows, falling silent to the world.
At peace though, the world grew away from the legends. Tribes into towns, cities into countries. A new era came, made to rise by human power. The humans still sung songs or mentioned the myths of dragons or the turtle who could swim in any sea, but now the humans looked at the legends as amusing stories. Schools taught only human history. But what did it matter in a time of peace?
After ten thousand years of silence though, the darkness took shape once again. Now it is up to the old elemental spirits to find new guardians for the modern era. Those who will wield the elemental powers must be heroes in their hearts to face the new era to come- the era of the spider queen.

The truth is, he just lives a sad and lonely life, but the isolation of his peers made him bitter. Always alone, hes grown good at reading others, his stare often distressing others. The dark house crowded in on Len, the shadows dense and suffocating. He long grew used to them though, sitting as he often did in the attic room with cold wood floors beneath him. There was something comforting about the dark. As much as it crushed him, he welcomed the weight like a steady friend. From below, he heard the front door open, a muffled voice rising, though he could not make out the words. His father. Len turned his gaze down to stare at his pile of blankets atop the futon. Best to get some sleep then. He would be able to do nothing else now, having lost his chance to be alone.
Pulling aside the blankets, he slid into the futon without much care. As he closed his eyes though, a brilliant vision flashed in his mind. Len snapped his eyes open again, shocked. A gentle voice spoke though, filling his entire mind with the blissful sound.
'Don't be afraid, little one. I wont hurt you, never you the voice crooned.' Len found his eyes closing again, tempted by the sly sound of the woman's voice. He saw only darkness behind his eyes, but somehow, he thought he saw something more.
"Who are you?" he murmured.
The voice seemed to collect itself before speaking again. 'I am the bringer of darkness, the wielder of shadows. Long ago, they called me the Spider Queen and I have chosen you. Len child, you will be the next who brings our era.'
The darkness crowded in again, still dense, but full. As footsteps walked across the first floor of the otherwise empty house, a slow smile spread across Lens face. He didn't know anything yet, but for the first time, he felt at home, wanted. When do we start?

Destan hurried down the school halls, his backpack slung across one shoulder. The first day of the school year just ended and he felt exhilarated. His friends hung back, leaving most of the crowd already through the front door. Which was fine. He felt no need to hurry now.
"Hey, well see ya later, Des. Got to go pick up my sister on the way home so peace out, man!" Jackson called, tossing a simple wave over his shoulder.
"Yeah! Send me a text about that summer reading, okay. Ive got to put my texts in the locker so I'll be out in a minute." He turned away from the others, slipping around a corner. There was something nice about the halls at this hour, though he liked the crowd of his friends as well. As he walked though, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, like someone else should be here. He shook his head and continued on. Everything was bright after all, as bright as could be.

Alainn walked down the school hall, She forgot to switch her books and had to ask to go switch them for Social Studies. She did the combination, and opened it, swapping her books out. Just then a snicker came from behind her. She turned, dreading who it might be. A girl her age, with a twisted, evil look stared at her.
" What do you want Clara? " Alainn asked, refusing to shrink back.
" Are you trying to stand up to me? I'll give you credit for being brave, " Clara said, slamming her hand on to the locker next to Alainn, making her jump, and eventually shrink back slightly. " I should teach you a lesson, ready for some training? You've been a bad dog. " Clara said, grabbing her by the hair, and throwing her to the ground. Alainn struggled, and whipped her leg back, kicking her.
" You shouldn't have done that you brat! " Clara shouted, holding her by the hair, and kicking her multiple times. Alainn struggled, until she gave up. Clara dropped her hair, and walked off, as if it hadn't happened. Alainn got to her feet and closed her locker. To Clara, Alainn was a toy, and she hated that. She looked at her arms, and looked at her face through the mirror she had out in her locker. It was bruised, and her nose was bleeding a bit. She sighed and closed her locker. And turned to leave.

Destan just slammed his locker shut when he heard a scuffle of noise. He couldn't define it, but he knew the sound didn't match the rest of the hall noise full of excited chatter. Time and time again his parents and friends told him to stay out of things, but just like always, he found his feet walking toward the commotion. Of course he knew he might get in trouble too and with his dyed hair and partly unbuttoned shirt, it seemed to match him too. Either way, he rounded the corner going far faster than his sneakers could manage.
"Oh!" Destan stopped short, nearly running into another girl who just appeared to have emerged from the floor. Or just stood up, anyway. That made more sense. Brow furrowing deeper, his eyes darted over the quickly forming bruises and the spot of red under her nose. "Are you okay?" He glanced down the hall, but whatever was the source of the girl's injuries already left to blend into the last of the crowd. For the time being, it left them alone. Not sure it would last, he stepped closer, thinking perhaps the girl might want her answer to stay private.

Alainn looked at the boy in front of her. Her body ached. And so did her head, Clara had kicked it hard. " Its fine, Its happens often. " Alainn smiled. She had this weird sort of cheerfulness that never seemed to go away. " A girl and I had a... " She thought for a second. " A disagreement! " She knew she was lying to him, and herself. Something she did often. Her mother often told her she could see through her lies, because of her eyes. She told her they look sad, even with the smile on her face. She shook away her thoughts. She kicked the ground softly, nervously. The room seemed to spin, the laughter and chatting of the crown dim. Her ribs and head hurt the worst, its where she kicked the most times.

Destan's smile flickered, struggling to stay on his face. He could tell that the girl told only half truths, but he didn't think it was his place to call her out either. He wasn't sure what he should do. Dragging a hand through his hair, he muttered under his breath. "Alright, disagreement, I can deal with that. Be patient, Des..." After a second, he offered the girl his hand. "I'm Destan by the way. Want to walk to the buses together or is it the car pick up for you?" She didn't look like a senior like him so he didn't think she drove. Of course he did and the parking lot was int he opposite direction, but he didn't want to leave her alone. It was be rude and insensitive, right?
