I was told offline by a sylestian player that regular essences gave 4 trait points, but they only give 2. This will really screw up my sale, and I don't have enough diamonds to buy enhanced Essances even if I get my diamonds back. :( now I have to save up and make everyone wait for the offspring

This wouldn't be a bug.
I am also unsure what you are asking.
When buying items, you should always read over the item you are purchasing to make sure you understand the item correctly.
