Ok, so I know you generate a pet on your first time in this site...but I was wondering, can you generate more afterwards? Like, is there a certain requirement to be able to generate something and I just don't meet them, or what?

To be able to generate a pet you have to have an Essence. You can occasionally find them when nurturing egglings and hatchlings.

Most of the time it's only 2 trait points though. If you get a more advanced essence then it will be 4 trait points, but they're not always 100% accuret with the colors and the shade might be slightly off.

Essences:

Your first pet you get to generate - your starter - without having to use any items. All pets you want to generate after require generator essences for the specific species you'd like to generate one of. (: So if I wanted to generate a vulnyx - I'd need a vulnyx essence. If I wanted to generate an aurleon, I'd need an aurleon essence.

Essence Types:

There are three different tiers of essences - each one is of different quality.

Regular - This is the lowest quality essence. This essence lets you use 2 trait points (2 carried traits or one visible trait) and has mildly accurate colors. This means when you select the colors you'd like it to be, there is potential for it to be lighter/dark or a few shades different that the color you wanted the color to be. As a result, you might have to use pet dyes to get the colors you wanted.

Enhanced - This is a medium quality essence This essence lets you use 4 trait points (4 carries, 1 visible and 2 carries, or 2 visibles in terms of traits). The colors on this essence are much more accurate than those on regular essences - but still had potential to be a little different than what you wanted.

Mystical - The is a high quality essence. This essence lets you use 4 trait points (4 carries, 1 visible and 2 carries, or 2 visibles in terms of traits). The colors on mystical essences are near perfect and there will be little variation from what you originally selected.

Thus if I wanted to generate a kelpari with 4 trait points and fairly accurate colors I would look for an enhanced kelpari essence. (: You really want to pick based off your needs.

Using the Essence:

When you go to the generator, you will see a load essence option at the very top - at any time in your design process you may load the essence into the generator. When you're happy with the product you can simply hit the generate button. :)

Getting Essences:

There are 5 ways to get essences that I can think of:

Nurturing - you have a small chance of getting an essence when you nurture pets. You can nurture pets that are either egglings or hatchlings by clicking on their individual links and images, clicking their picture, and click the button that goes with the prompt. (:

Trade Broker - Here people will list their essences for public sale which you are free to buy. However, this might be pricey if you are just starting out.

Fighting Enemies - when you fight wild sylestis, there is a small chance they can drop an essence upon their death.

Contests - if you submit a gene or mutation when the site sponsored contests come up and your entry gets chosen you will receive a mystical essence for the pet you created the new trait for

Diamond Shop - you may trade the diamond currency for the essence you're looking for in the diamond shop. However, this is quite an expensive route to take as diamonds are worth somewhere between 2000-2500 gold per. You may also purchase diamonds for real currency.

In addition to the above, some people own pets that are "regenable", which could be functionally identical to making the pet in the generator, save that gender is already set. However, not all pets are fully regenable. Some might only allow you to change certain details. (In fact, you can't change the currently-used-for-nothing-on-most-pets color on regenable pets.)

These are only available during art updates, only if the admins feel the changes are severe enough to negatively impact the species, and then it's only for the ones affected and you can't prepare, short of stockpiling as many different examples of the species with different genes as possible..
