Ailika had many things she wanted to do before winter. Harvest the crops, play with the dogs, spend time with her baby sister. Going to try to become a Dragonrider was nowhere on that list. A myriad of colours scorched her eyes; twelve dragons, absolutely massive, lined a cobbled path, six to a side. She and about a hundred others walked up slowly, gaping in awe. The two on the end shifted away, facing them directly. On one, a purple beast with pale green wings, swirled with dark blue, a strict-looking woman sat, black hair in a bun, eyes like steel. "This is not an easy life. There are many hardships. You may be injured, and you may die. You will face battles and monsters like you've never seen. You will live here, rarely seeing your families. There is no shame in leaving. If you do not wish for this life, leave now. Endrich, Lauren, and their beasts will take you home. About twenty boys and girls left. "Now, enter the forest beyond us. There are hundreds of dragons in there. I want you to feel out with your mind, make that connection, and find your dragon. If you do not make a positive connection, don't find a dragon, or fail to return at all, we will know you have failed. Only a select few, if any, of you, will be lucky enough to bond with one of these gorgeous beasts." The man on the dragon to her left beamed, astride a mostly yellow dragon, and whistled with his fingers. "May the goddess smile upon you!"

Ailika found a rock ledge, padded with moss, on the slopes leading to the mountains, where they would migrate to in the winter and never return. She closed her eyes, reaching out for another, when her consciousness grasped hold of another. It startled her, and she tried to pull away, but the other mind pulled harder. It pulsed in her head, forcing her heart to follow the pace. Then she just relaxed, and allowed it to flow. She opened her eyes, and found her dragon.
It was about the size of a very large dog, obviously unable to fly. Its eyes were brown, and when her green eyes met the eyes of the dragon, she felt immediately the unbreakable connection. Ailika was hers, and she was Ailika's. Cautiously, as it was still a wild being, she extended a hand. The hatchling snapped at it for a second, then pressed her warm, scaled head in it, a rumbling noise from her throat, like a deep purr. Then it sneezed and pulled away, bounding back the way Ailika came.

Anthea stared wide eyed at the dragons, she had seen dragons before, but never this close, and never this many. She deeply hoped inside of her she would be able to bond with one of the dragons in the forest. She began walking into the forest, reaching deep into her mind, feeling beyond all her internal voices screaming in excitement, anxiety, and worry, but above all, hope.
She felt this instinct inside her, walking through the forest, hoping it was the bond with a young dragon

There was a sinking feeling in his heart, if this didn't work then he would be forced to go, though were he didn't know. Carefully he stepped forward, keeping his head low as he let his mind wander. Please...please let him find one! A scared feeling washed over him as none of the dragons approached...so it was like that then? He was going to be alone forever, without a single friend in the world? It was then his knees failed and he collapsed, head down in shame. He wanted nothing more than to make his family proud yet even now he failed them. Maybe it was better to just stay and get killed than to face them in shame...
Carefully he watched the children, feeling no connections with any of them. When the boy in the bluish robes collapsed though his attention was sparked. If anything the boy would make a quick meal yet deep inside he felt a strange connection. This child was much like himself, lost in a world that he didn't fit in, lonely and confused as to what to do next. With a carefully step he emerged from the brush, walking towards the boy. With a slight huff he sat next to the child, staring as he did. It was in this moment that the bond was sealed, and both of them felt it.

Anthea suddenly tripped, sliding down a small hill, being caught by something in a tree. She thought it was a branch, and she would fall any moment until felt something grab her, lifting her as they rushed towards the ground. He yelped as she was dropped, and whipped around to face a small, pure white dragon staring her in the eyes.
Concordia, though not knowing that would be her name yet, sat in a sturdy tree, watching children from afar, some trying to force bonds with dragons they stumbled upon by accident. She couldn't feel a bond with any of them, until she heard a distinct yelp that enamored, her. She jumped down, grabbing the girl by the back of her shirt and brought her safely to the ground. She could feel it, this girl would bond with her. She girl gasped as she turned, staring into her deep blue eyes.

Blue walked into the forest. She looked at each of the dragons. She walked past all the dragons till she found a dragon hiding from the rest. She approached it and felt an instant connection. It backed away from her, but she felt drawn to it. It was beautiful. It held her gaze for a moment and came out of its hiding spot. Blue sat down and let it come to her. It came close enough she could pet it. You are gorgeous! she said quietly.

Jatara walked through the forest path, looking around as she her the small noises that came from the rustling leaves and chirping birds. She had felt the first tug a minute or so before- it hadn't been strong but it had definitely been something. She walked around, feeling her heart rate speed up and the tugging grow stronger.
She appeared in front of a cliff. Hanging from the cliff was a bundle of leaves and twigs, all woven together in some strange nest or basket. She walked over, her feet carrying her without her say or consent. She peered into the nest and there, curled up in a ball of pearly white. She reached down and touched the dragon.
Its eyes popped open, at once showing a faint blue color that hadn't been there seconds earlier. The first sign of a color change, though the rest would take longer. At that same instant, she felt the bond almost snap together. Her and the dragon, the dragon and her. Jatara scooped the small ball of white scales up in her arms and continued back toward the edge of the woods.

Anthea began walking around the woods some more, looking for other bonded kids, and also looking for a way out of the forest. Her dragon seemed to know the way, but wished for Anthea to find it on her own. "You're going to need a name, huh" She said, gazing into the dragon's eyes. "Concordia" She decided, looking into her dragon's soul

The dragon nipped at her fingers, and she laughed. "You need a name..." Almost as clear as day, she felt the dragon retort, though without words, 'of course I need a name. Doesn't everything. Sit down, noisy human.' Ailika, though only getting the gist of it, sat.
