So this vul baby has a trait that she has no business having:

Clicky

She has lunamoth wings as a carried trait, when there are no lunamoth genes of any sort (neither carried, visible, or hidden) in her parents or grandparents. That is as far back as her bloodline goes. Her mother has two foundation themed for parents, and her father is foundation themed, so the line doesn't go back very far.

How could this possibly happen?

The hatchling's father hasn't been tested, so you can't see if he has any hidden traits. He probably has Lunamoth Wings hidden under the Armored Wings :)

That does not appear to be the case here:

Meaning that it would show as purple in the Advanced search if he had a hidden trait, yes?

Only if the pet's been tested.

Purple is used to indicate a visible trait and a hidden trait, but hidden traits are only displayed if a pet's been tested. Untested pets will always show only the visible traits :)
