Whenever I go to Enigmatic Grotto, the message says "You have discovered the entrance to the Enigmatic Grotto." So then push explore the area. Then there's a message and Jinxie comes and says a few things. I then push continue exploring, and the message pops up is, "Your pets are all unconscious. Visit a healer or revive then to continue exploring."
This happens even if my party pets are at full health. It is very annoying, consumes a lot of money, and it consumes a lot of potions.

It looks like you only have 1 party pet. I believe there is a scripted event that knocks out your first pet. If you don't have any other pets in your party, it will be an automatic defeat.
Visit Esior's Haven and the Sanctuary of Saerielle to expand your party to 2 or 3 slots.
