Eggs hatch after roughly 3 days. Having people nurture or "poke" the eggs will speed up the time by a certain amount (I believe it's five nurtures for one hour?).

You could post a link to the pet's profile in one of the Chatrooms, and there will almost certainly be people who'll poke it without really paying attention through the Help Nurture Sylesties button in the nursery. You won't need to worry about it.
