"Okay, stop complaining!" The olive-skinned girl sat atop an animal that was similar to a wolf, only with a thick mane on the back of it's long neck. Her statement was directed to a boy who was lounging on a chair in front of his house, with a look on his face that suggested annoyance.
"No," He groaned, glaring. "Can we go one day without getting in trouble for doing something we're not supposed to do?"
She rolled her eyes. "What's the fun in that, Heath? You're so boring."
He sighed, sitting up. "Fine? What do you want to do?"
"Well," Storm's eyes glittered. Yes, he actually gave in. "I was thinking we could-" Her plans for mischief were cut off by a large shattering noise. Seconds later, screams and shouts could be heard from the nearby marketplace.
At once, a roar could be heard as Heath summoned his spirit animal, a beautiful and fierce black bear. They both lifted their heads up, sniffing the air. Storm and Kria did the same, and her eyes widened as she recognized the smell of burning wood and smoke.
"Something's very wrong."

Damen nudged the lazy monitor lizard, who just glanced at him with one eye and then went back to sleep.
This was useless. There wasn't a lazier animal in all of Amaya, he suspected. Sleep all day, do absolutely nothing--although, when he considered it, the prospect did seem rather alluring.
