So... is it possible to change the visible traits on a pet or give a pet a new trait?

It depends on what kind of pet it is.

For Tamed pets, you can use the lesser or greater genetic mutator to add a new trait to the pet. The lesser mutator will add a random trait, that may be carried or visible. If it adds a carried trait, you won't be able to see the trait unless the pet is genetically tested. The greater mutator allows you to choose and add whatever trait you want as a visible trait. Note that each pet can only be mutated once. If it has been mutated before, you cannot use a mutator on it again. Pets that have been mutated before will be marked accordingly.

You can get the lesser mutator from the scale shop, and the greater mutator from the diamond shop. Or buy either from other players on the trade broker.

For Tagged Themed (non-bred) pets, you can use the philter of trait disruption to change the traits on the pet. This philter will randomly shuffle the traits of the pet, and assign new ones based on the number of trait points the pet had previously. This philter can be used multiple times, so long as the pet is not bred.

This philter is rare, and can be bought in the diamond only during special sales (like during festivals). They can sometimes be won during festival games. Or you can buy them from other players on the trade broker.

For most other types of pets (starter, generated, offspring), you can't change or add new traits. You can use the philter of nullification to remove traits (from all types of pets), but you can't add them. Unless you have a special type of philter.

There are some philters that were added in a time-limited sale during previous festivals that work in a very specialised way. These philters are the Lucky Mutator, and the Restricted Trait Disruptor (Sylvorpa Water Dragon).

The lucky mutator allows you to pick and add a Fortune Festival inspired trait: Lucky Runes or Lucky Dust, on any species of Tamed pets. The slot you want to add the trait to has to be empty, and you can only use it if the pet has not been mutated before (this counts as a mutator).

This was previously available on sale in the diamond shop during the fortune festival, and will likely be available on sale again in future fortune festivals. For now, you can buy them from other players on the trade broker.

The restricted trait disruptor adds a random visible trait from the Water Dragon restricted trait set. This can only be used on an Exclusive, Tamed, or Offspring Sylvorpa. The pet must not already have a visible/carried trait from this set, and must have at least one visible non-restricted trait that will be removed (since this philter "disrupts" the pet, removing a non-restricted trait and replacing it with a random restricted trait from this set). So the pet needs to have an empty or visible trait in the slot that the philter will add the new restricted trait to. (This philter is extra confusing, I know >< )

This philter was previously available on sale in the diamond shop during the fortune festival. You can buy them from other players on the trade broker.

There will likely be other types of restricted trait disruptor added in the future for different species of pets, allowing players to add Restricted Traits to almost any Exclusive, Bred, or Tamed Pets of the Species that the Philter represents.

With the following restrictions:
-Can only be used on a Pet that does not have any Traits of the Restricted Set.

-The Trait added is randomly selected from the Restricted Set.

-When used, one random Visible non-Restricted Trait is removed. If the selected Trait from the Restricted Set is in a slot where a Trait already exists, it replaces that Trait. If no Visible non-Restricted Traits are available, the item cannot be used.

-Can only be used on Exclusive, Tamed, or Bred Pets of the valid Species.

Looks like Wonderfulb2uty forgot to mention the Lovely Mutator, which is basically the same thing as the Lucky Mutator, but which can give a Tamed pet Valentines Lace gene (all species have this trait) or Lovely Hearts mutation.
