I am trying to sell diamonds through the trade broker to save up to purchase a specific pet. If the owner of said pet stated that they would like X number of Diamonds Or X number of Gold, it would give those that had Diamonds the option of purchased/adopted the pet now rather than wait for members to "hopefully" purchase your diamonds for gold in time to purchase the pet that you would like.

The member might actually prefer the diamonds as they could then turn around and purchase items that can more easily be purchased through the Diamond shop.

For said pet - I have less than half the needed gold. But have plenty of diamonds. Just my "two cents" for the day.

Hmm, the current method that I know people do, rather than waiting to change the dia into gold and buying in gold, is to contact the seller directly for a diamond price. Then have the seller put an exchange up for 1gold for x diamonds and sets the pet for 1 gold set to the buyer's user id, where x is the cost of the pet. Then the buyer buys the exchange and obtains their pet. (Hope I explained that clearly)

It is kind of a funky process even so, though.

My best guess as to why it's set up how it currently is, is that diamonds are easier to track when they are transferred only via the currency exchange

It makes sense - actually this had more to do with purchasing some of the themed animals - and timing was critical - I kind of gave up on saving up for the Vulnex I wanted from one member and hope that another pops up. My poor Irish Meadows kitty will be lonely without a mate and I prefer to breed "in house" if you know what I mean.

That being said, a friend of mine is offering diamonds for a pet that the member is taking offers for in either gold or diamonds. My understanding (from what you said) is that if the offer were accepted, the diamonds could be exchanged for the gold and then the pet could be purchased if both members were in agreement.

Do I have that right?

If the offer is accepted, the diamonds would be exchanged for 1 gold listed by the user who is selling. So while it's technically an 'exchange of gold' no gold is really being exchanged as the pet would be set for 1 gold as well.

I guess I'll just use pictures and an example xD

For example:
If I were selling a pet for 100 diamonds to you, I would put an exchange up like so,

And set the pet price to 1 gold,

Then you would 1. go to the exchange and take my offer. And 2. buy the pet.

I guess I will note that the two actions the buyer takes are asynchronous, so while it is technically possible for a user to accept the pet without actually paying the diamonds, as long as your intent to sell for the listed price is in writing on Sylestia, the admin will take care of any problems you might have with such a user.

While I do say that, I have never, not once, had a problem with anyone not following through. And I have done a lot of trades with small as well as large quantities of diamonds.

Hope that helps!

Is there a way then to privately sell the diamonds on the currency exchange?

If I were to place an exchange the "say" 100 diamonds for 1 gold, who is to stop someone else for accepting that offer before the other member can "grab the diamonds?

I think my friend simply place a currency exchange for the amount that she offered for the fair market value of the gold. If someone wants the diamonds badly enough (buy some items that are difficult to find outside of the diamond mart), then at least she has a "decent" offer for the pet.

Setting 100 diamonds for 1 gold would be bad as you correctly guessed. It has to be the opposite way, the other person would be setting 1 gold for 100 diamonds. So no one can grab the trade, as would be silly to grab it, basically giving away 100 diamonds to a stranger.

Hmm, I guess a way to achieve the effect of privately selling diamonds would be:

Person A: Buying X Diamonds for Y Gold
Person B: Selling X Diamonds for Y Gold

Have Person A list 1 gold for x diamonds on the currency exchange.

Then to have Person B send a junk item such as a fairy mushroom with a CoD fee of y gold to Person A.

I think I understand.

X diamonds for 1 gold or fairy mushroom - that no one would touch.

Person B sells pet for 1 gold.

The trade for said pet is under consideration. It would help if the sex of the pet were known as it is an eggling still - but the offer could always be upped.

If you were really lucky and won the pet for X number of diamonds during the lucky roll (or for your free one), the offer is much higher that that. Hopefully the pet is a female and my friend will have two pair of the pets =)

Thank you for your help with this, it makes sense now - have a great night - or day depending on where you live.
