Maybe we could allow accent marks in pet names? I'm naming my pets after Spanish words and since the meaning of a Spanish word can change if you remove the accent mark, I'm limited to only using accent-mark-less words as names. I think it'd be nice if we can have letters with accent marks in pet names.

on the one hand, it would make searching for pets by name really hard. I don't have any letters with accent marks on my keyboard, guess I'll have to search for those in google first and copy them into search form.

on the other hand, why would I ever search for a pet by name? I'd rather search for some traits or themes.

Well, and then there comes the point of Pet IDs. It makes searching for a pet much easier, or you could even just type in the owner's username or ID.

I would say that this is a nice idea, considering the fact in which you may implement words from another language.

Now, don't get me wrong, but there can both be good and bad outcomes of this.

Good~
-Wider variety of name choices.
- Unique combinations.
-Etc, etc.

Bad~
-Harder advanced searching.
-Harder to implement certain letters in a name.
-Etc, etc.

But, there are probably many more features to come.

I search for pets by name to look for specific themes that people might have had in mind while creating or breeding pets, but I support this idea. This would allow for some of my preferred names to exist as pet names. The advanced search could simply ignore the accent marks while pulling results so that we don't have to type them in ourselves. However, I believe that this should not be limited to pets and should instead be implemented site-wide, for I frequently use exotic words as titles for designs in the generator, and there are many English words borrowed from other languages that also use accent marks.

Or, if you'd like to skip all of that nonsense, you have my stamp of approval for whatever that's worth.

We like pet names and usernames to be pretty uniform on the Site. I think it keeps things clean and makes everything systematic and presentable. It also prevents those 'creative' individuals who abuse special characters for all sorts of things.

So unfortunately, I don't think we're really interested in expanding the allowable characters for pet names or usernames.
