Pets age is actually measured in maturity, which is noted by hour! The days can give you a general idea, but maturity is what decides a pet's stage. In order to see a pet's maturity, it has to be genetically tested. It can be found in the pet's image code.

So the maturity scale is:
0 - 72 = Eggling (about 3 days)
73 - 215 = Hatchling (about 6 days)
216 - 647 = Adolescent (about 18 days)
648+ = Adult

So it usually takes about 27 days for an eggling to become an adult.

Note that only adult pets can breed, and only adolescents and adults can battle.

To give other players money, they have to send you an item with a Cost of Delivery. There's not really another way to do it unfortunately ^^;; This post has pictures on how to do that!
