So anybody else out there who is looking foreward to the new Hobbit movies? I am!
I just saw the trailer and was hooked. Mirkwood looks awesome, The elves kick as (in the trailer anyhow) and I am very curious about laketown and Smaug.
As for Tauriel, I am happy they added some girl power. I am not happy with adding romance though so I hope that stays to a minimum. But Tauriel herself seems awesome.
I loved Lord of the Rings, I did not love the Hobbit as much as I did Lord of the rings (so far) but I did enjoy it very much. I went to see it twice in the cinema. My only real problem whas the overload of cgi.
I love the elves and the humans I really do, but it was refeshing to see a group of dwarves for once.
(Spoilers for first hobbit movie, kinda)
The first movie was funny. I loved those dwraves. But... The dwarfs part in the movie was kinda like this: They take all bilbo's food, They travel, get captured by trolls, get saved by gandalf, they tarvel and are stubborn (Thorin mostly), they nearly get cornerd/killed by orcs on wargs , get saved by gandalf and his secret passage to Elrond's place, them being rude to elves, they sneak away, they travel, get captured by goblins, get saved by gandalf again, they run, they are cornerd in trees, Thorin goes suicide on everybody while his men are almost being burned and falling into the deep, Thorin is Saved by Bilbo, company saved by gandalf AGAIN with help of the eagels, end it ends with a heartwarming bro hug..
That is a lot of saving and running away for such a proud fierce race. I kinda feel bad for them
So really what kind of usefull things did the dwarves do so far? Besides warming our hearts and making us laugh (in a good way). How far would they have gotten withoud gandalf I wonder...
Still, you have to admire that determination and bro love if nothing else. Bofur charmed his way into my heart with his scene with Biblo. What a nice dwarf he is.
Anyway if you love the movie and are looking foreward to the next one please share your thoughts/opinions/hopes/fave character(s).
My fave dwarves from the movie are: Bofur and Fili. Though I was very happy to see Gimli's dad Gloin. Gimli still being my number 1 dwarf. Bilbo also was a joy to watch. I think I will love Thranduil as well, but because he was so little on screen in the first movie, I am not counting him for now.
There are 2 rules:
1 - Post a spoiler warning if you are going to mention events from the first movie, or from the books.
2 - Be nice, If there are characters (or book changes in the movie) you do not like do not attack or talk abadly about it but share it in a friendly way. Focus more on the ones you like. Everybody should feel free to share who or what they love withoud being attacked for it.
Example: ''That character was stupid/bland/boring.'' should be ''I did not care much for that character. I was more a fan off...''
Or something in that direction you get my point. You can share your dislike for something, but be civil about it.

I have not yet seen The Hobbit movie. However, the dwarves in Tolkien's book were intended to be a little bit comedic and bumbling--as well as politely fierce--primarily as a vehicle to get a somewhat timid Bilbo Baggins involved in the quest in first place. Had a bunch of furious warrior-dwarves swept into the comfortable, middle-aged hobbit's hole demanding a burglar, there is no believable way that Bilbo would have left his front door at all. So I'm pleased to learn that Jackson kept the film true to the book in that sense.
Keep in mind that Tolkien wrote The Hobbit after he wrote The Lord of the Rings, as a way to introduce children to his world. That, too, can explain and excuse the corny slapstick aspect of the dwarves that is almost nonexistent in The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.
I am not sure what to think of Tauriel. In many ways I am a Tolkien purist, and as such do not welcome the addition of any major character, male or female, that Tolkien did not invent. That said, Tolkien is very vague in The Hobbit about who exactly the Elven guards are in the Wood-Elf dungeon and who the Elven warriors are during the battle at Lone Mountain, so conceivably a character like Tauriel could have existed within that scope.

Personally, I'm just happy that Legolas is in the Movie. (He will always be my favorite character) And really, him having a lady friend, really just makes it better for me.

I also loved Legolas, but to be fair I loved the whole fellowship
And Legolas was at his best in combo with Gimli So I am going to miss his friendship with a dwarf on screen, instead we will get him hating dwarfs again. I think. The trailer made it look like that anyway.
Though that will give the Legolas/Gimli friendship even more power so I can live with it.
Tauriel: I usualy do not like oc characters in real stories. But the Hobbit does lack some proper girls so I am glad they added one. I do Hope not to much focus will go to her though. I would love some kick as fighting moments, but the movies is about bilbo and the dwarfs.
Says the girl who is a huge ELF fan lol.
I also love Bilbo He was cast great, and I also look foreward the Smaug's voice! I have not seen the guy in sherlock holmes yet but I hear good things about him so I am looking foreward to hear his voice acting. And he plays the necromancer as well.
