Basically a way that a user can put up a pet for sale for people to look at or an auction house where people can just bid on a pet?

Isn't that basically just like the Pet Auctions forum though?

What we need is a base pricing system:
Basically, depending on the species, amount of traits, and labels (aka tamed, themed, generated) There is a sales price you cannot go under without checking a box "Gift" and then entering an ID.

Six visible pets would /have/ to be more expensive than one visible pets, while pets without vis or carry may not be eligible to sell without a tag in the first place.

This would keep the advanced search in check, remove the cluttered 1g pets that are better off released, and give newbies more motivation for figuring out how to earn money. (Discover and get good at missions and raids.) It would also raise pet values.

Maybe every trait for a non-fabled pet would be worth 5k while for fabled 10k. Since neither of those are hard to come by. One level 50 mission performed exceptionally can earn you over 10k, so six missions /could/ get you a 6v fabled pet base priced. However, the pet could be more expensive than the base price if preferred, it is just an amount you could not drop under.

I highly disagree with that. That would be very bad for people who just want noobs to be able to find six vis pets for extremely low prices.

And I highly disagree with you. /Noobs/ should have to learn the game like everyone else in able to achieve those pets having earned them. /Newbs/ fill up their stables with pets they don't need just because they can afford them, then they BEG for others to buy them while refusing to release because they can't afford to feed them or get more space. Then they have to beg for money to be able to have conscious pets when they hear about missions. Newbs shouldn't have access to free for all pets, it causes too many problems. Lowers values, hurts economy, and clutters our site.

However, the people selling them should have the freedom to set whatever prices they want, and if they want to leave things for people to buy at low prices, they should be able to. I would hate to have any sort of leash that prevents me from the freedom of pricing a pet that I own. Noobs have to start somewhere, and if they can get nice pets when they're new, they're a lot more likely to stay, since they won't feel such a struggle to get pets that look ok. Also, I find it understandable that noobs wouldn't release their pets, but I really haven't seen very many noobs try to beg for people to buy their pets. Just threads selling them, like everyone else. I think our economy and values are fine. Sure it's annoying to find a bunch of 0-vis pets on advanced search, but we can easily filter that out with the AS options. But that's just my thoughts :T

If newbies are good and follow the rules they usually get gift bombed upon their arrival. Whether you like it or not, freedom of pricing causes problems. Your opinion doesn't affect mine at all when I see this every single day all over the site, not apologizing for that. I am not arguing with you any further but you aren't changing my mind, think about it for a while. Pay attention to the newbs going broke because of the problems your argument creates.

Why would you have to apologize? I'll respect your opinion, even if I don't have faith in it. If a noob goes broke, I can understand that, and I'll help them out because their new. I just think people should have the freedom to price their goods as whatever they want. I have thought about it, and I stand by my beliefs, however, if you are firm in your ideas, I'll leave this debate too.

When I initially saw this thread, I thought it was more like a dedicated interface/feature that displayed pets to sell in a different way. For example, a page that you can auction pets via an automated system where you fill out a form with SB, AB, dates and so on.

It's true though that there currently are different ways to navigate pet sales:

-advanced search
-pet auctions forum threads
-going to a stable/tab set aside for sales, or browsing for pets specifically on sale
-PM/ask a person if a pet is on sale

IMO, nothing is necessarily wrong with the above, but maybe the suggestion suggests another organized way to do pet sales. I've seen other sites have user shops that sell pets, or trade lots that show a bundle of pets that someone is looking to trade with requests of what they want.
Sylestia doesn't necessarily need those different features quite yet, since we have all the other ways to buy pets, but I wouldn't mind easier ways to find what we want (right now I'm thinking of that suggestion to have keyword filters in advanced search, which would be very convenient in conjunction to what we currently have at our disposal).

For the base value of pets argument, I truly think it could be solved in different ways. My ideal would be finding ways to equate pets to a certain base value (ie release x pet for y scales, and rehauling the scale shop), but there are always different ways to see the problem (Pokemon, played single player, doesn't necessarily assign value to Pokemon, so you capture up until you run out of box space; Sylestia might not necessarily need intervention of its pet market and all value is player-perceived).

For newbies, I think helping them understand the game would make a difference in how they play it and go about breeding and buying pets. Not all players perceive pet value the same, and that in itself is a learning curve that separates newbies from non-newbies.
