So, my starter pet finally turned into an adult, so I was looking through my pets hoping to find a good mate to breed her with and...
I thought the cap for adolescent was 18 days??? He seems stuck. ;-; Is this a bug or is there some kind of something out there that makes them stuck in certain stages? I'm very confused.

adolescents usually become adults from 26 days to 28 days, not 18 ^^

But
My starter pet is at 18 days and is now an adult. Are starters just an exception?

Pets that are bred usually take around 28 days because they start off as eggs. Starter/generated pets start off at adolescent, so they become adults faster. Pets that are found/caught from the wild can start off at any random life stage, so those are harder to predict base on age.
The pet's age in days is just a gauge, since there are a lot of things that can affect the pet's maturity (which determines what life stage they're at). Things such as nurturing, magical pies, site downtime all affect the pet's maturity and can cause them to mature faster or slower.
To get an accurate maturity, the pet needs to be genetically tested, and when you copy the image url, near the end there will be a &maturity=__, where the number there is the pet's maturity in hours. Pets become hatchlings at 72 hrs, adolescents at 216 hrs, adults at 648 hrs.
