"Are you sure we can't just walk? I mean not ever bird is made to fly are we? Like you always say you have to be different from the others, maybe this is how I'm different!" The blue Aurleon chick chirped as the flight instructor nudged her to the edge of the brantch they were on. "Shimmer you know that every bird has to learn to fly, just look out there at you friends, they are out there with you." The older Aurleon said pushing the chick farther out on the brantch. Shimmer gulped as she looked down. The drop was not that far to the bottom but it would still hurt. She looked out at the two other chicks that were also learning to fly. She swallowed her fear and spread her wings. Shimmer jumped from the brantch and flipped her tiny wings as she flew the few feet to the resting brantch in the training field. "I did it!"

The wind felt nice under his wings as he again took off. Each time he tried it was as if he was already getting stronger. Rigil flapped his small wings as he hopped brantch to brantch in the training tree. It was hard work but if he was to fly like the others he would have to keep working.

She easily leapt from branch to branch flapping her small wings. She sometimes flew a little longer than she should, just to show off.

"Don't over do yourselves!" The instructor squawked. Shimmer spred her twinge again and flapped as hard as she could. She made it to the next branch without falling. "Hey I think I may be getting the hang of this!"

"Feather! Wait up!" Rigil called after her flapping harder to try and keep up. "Slow down!"

Sky flew after the blue and gold Aurleons and the gray Aurleon came back and they all went onto the same branch, "Hello!" she called as she landed.

"Hi," Feather said. She landed on the branch and looked at the other Aurleons.

"Who are you?" Rigil asked the new comer as he landed. "I haven't seen you here before."

Shimmer joined them. "Hello! I'm Shimmer!" She said happily. "Are you new here? You seem new, I think I would remember seeing you around."

"I'm Feather, I was saved from a forest fire," she told the Aurleons.

"I've been here awhile, my parents were recently killed in battle, my name's Sky," she responded quietly.

"I'm sorry to hear that." Rigil said. "But at least you knew them while they were alive." He said trying to make her feel a bit better about her situation.

Shimmer fell silent. "My mother is missing still." She said sadly. "They don't know if she is dead or not. And it's all of those stupid Mountain dwellers fault!" She chirped. "I swear by the feathers I wear that I will but an end to them!"

"As do I." Rigil said. "We should make a pact, that no matter what happens we will put an end to those mountain dwellers."
