lets hear about the veteran in your life wether they be Dead or a live.
I will start with the veteran in my life
The veteran in my life is my Dad. I was 18 months old when he left to go the war in Iraq in 1990. He came home on my 2nd birthday. He works as an anesthesiologist now and has been since he got back from the war.

My dad served in Vietnam, unfortunately he was there when they dropped Agent Orange which led to him dying of lung cancer in 2009.
He never really talked about it; the few times he did discuss it, it was usually about a really horrific event.

Both of my great-grandfathers were highly esteemed fighter pilots in the Air Force of their time. My first great-grandfather died during World War II - at the end of the war, actually, during the recovery of Germany. This was shortly after my grandfather was born. My great-grandmother remarried once more, to the grandfather whom I got to meet and spend time with. He had several medals and dozens of certifications; back when he was active-duty, he literally could fly EVERYTHING. Including hot air balloons. Why? Because he could, that's why. He died recently, of bad health, and was serviced with a full military funeral that gave him the respect he deserved for his service.
I honor both of these men, and all the others who died while in service, and also to those who died after retirement.

A grandfather served during World War II as a commando. He doesn't like to talk about it that much, but he was there in Hiroshima after the atomic bomb went off.
My dad's uncle served in World War 1 and was sent back to England with shell shock. I never met him but apparently he was never the same after the war, and became quite an eccentric.
