I just sold an item through the trade broker for the first time, yay! The fee was unexpected, and I went to broker another item to check if I had missed a statement about the fee but it seems like I didn't. I feel like that's definitely something people would benefit from knowing in advance. If it was in a tutorial somewhere, it might help to have it be added somewhere else more permanent.

There is only a Fee if the person trading/selling it puts one. If they don't put a fee, then it's free to whoever it is being traded to.

When someone purchases an item you have up in the trade broker, the broker takes a certain amount out of what you would get back. I'm not sure the exact percentage, but it does indeed charge you a fee.
I agree with Diaveborn, it would be nice if this was stated clearly or more clearly somewhere. ^^
