I was thinking it might be fun, if you could breed for certain traits, that you can't get any other way. It would work like this:

There'd be an announcement by the admins, that there is a new trait you can breed for, and what that trait is. Then the players have to figure out how to get that trait. It could be, that you have to breed two pets with different visible traits in the same slot. Or you have to get a specific trait and color combination, that will merge into a new trait. There should be clues so that no one gets frustrated. I think it could be fun.

Obviously you would have to make sure that people can do projects without having traits appear they didn't want. There could be a new philter, that you have to use on your eggs when hatching. Only if you used the philter (and had the right combination of traits/colors on the parents) the new trait will appear in the offspring. This philters should be quite common, because there'd be a lot of trial and error and you'd have to use a lot of those philters. Or it could be, that you can only use the philter, when it will make something happen. If you use the philter on the wrong egg, there could be a message like: "Your eggling rejected the philter and hatched without it." And you keep the philter.

I hope this makes sense.

This is a fantastic idea...it would create another incentive for us to tame non-themed sylesties and breed them.

Another idea is that these events could be timed...So the admins might release a special trait for say...Zolnixi, and a time limit of 3 weeks. During this time, we get some clues on how the trait is formed, but we don't get to know what it looks like.

perhaps these special pets can only transfer their traits to other special pets. So for instance...if a special Zolnixi was to breed with a non-special, the only traits that would carry across would be the old traits.

(these special pets would have their own theme name upon activation)

The only problem I see is that if the trait is colour activated, how accurate does the hex need to be in order to activate the trait? That could be potential for A LOT of frustration if the accuracy needs to be with all 6 digits, lol

That'd be great for a festival!

You're right about the colors. It should be more of a color range maybe.

Cool. Maybe the colors could somehow be determined by a color wheel.

One problem, though probably not a big one with the feature of releasing your pets, is that the database would be overflowing with pets (not that it isn't already overflowing) because of people trying to breed for on of these traits. People would be breeding whatever pets they had of that species trying to get the trait, and it would also lower the value of pets with normal traits, since there would probably be many failures to get the special trait but sucesses in getting normal traits, you know what I mean?
Of course this problem is mild because of the release option, but I just wanted to point it out.
