Chapter One: Fate of The Night

The young NightTalon roosts in a tree, silently watching Her house. He spreads his wings, welcoming the tingling of blood rushing back into the cramped limbs. The NightTalon looks to the sky, wondering if another flight was possible. "Well, it is dark enough." thought he. The wings open further. His stiff legs push against the oak branch that had been his resting place for the past few hours, causing the leaves to rustle as if a breath of wind had passed through them.
A few quick beats of his wings brings him above the house, jet black scales glittering like stars in twilight. Another wingbeat caries him into the cloud layer. The NightTalon rejoices in the wind whistling past his scales, twisting and darting through the fog.
A burst of pain ripples through the NightTalon as he's yanked back towards the house by an invisible string. He stifles a scream as the pain intensifies and swings back around. Back to Her. He bellows his annoyance to the stars, causing small creatures to shiver in their dens for miles around. The NightTalon closes his wings and dives, wind delightfully whistling past his snout and tugging at his wings. About a yard from the ground he snaps open his wings, muscles screaming in protest but his fall stopping almost immediately. Flight was such a wonderful, amazing thing.

Chapter Two?

Bare feet pounding on the pavement, Camren ran. Ran from pain and betrayal. Any normal person would have been crying. But she wasn't. She never cried anymore. Never smiled, either. After a few minutes Camren stopped to look back. "Never again," she told herself, "never again." Then she resumed running.
