1) how do I earn trait points?

The only way you can increase trait points on a pet that already exists is if the pet was captured. If the pet was captured, you can use a Lesser Genetic Mutator (at least 1 random trait point, maximum of 1 random visible so 2 trait points) or Greater Genetic Mutator (1 visible of your choosing so 2 trait points).

Otherwise, the only way to "increase" trait points is to work on producing offspring that have more trait points. For example, if you had a female with 2 carries (so 2 trait points) and a male with 2 carries (so 2 trait points) you could get really lucky and have an offspring with 4 trait points.

If you're talking about getting trait points for the Generator, you need to buy essences. Regular gives you 2 trait points, Enhanced gives you 4 trait points, Mystical gives you 4 trait points.

2) Where do I put a stud service add in the forums?

Others may have a differing opinion but I'd suggest either the Pet Auctions or Breeding Discussion. Why not have a look in both sections to see where the majority of people post those sorts of threads?

3 days for non-legendary species, 7 days for legendary species.

Legendary are Aeri, Lighira, Griffi, Neph, Ny'vene, Ryori.

It will say the time and date when your female can next breed on her profile/page.

4) Is their a faster way to browse pets that are for sale?

Have you discovered the Advanced Search? Is in the left-hand bar, if you click, and then toggle to Search Pets you can set lots of different options including whether the pet is up for sale or breeding (and you can also filter from lowest price to highest).
