how can i get essence without having to pay 70 thousand for it?

The easiest way to get essences is by nurturing egglings and hatchlings. You can find the page for that by clicking on your hatchery, and then the help nurture Sylesties button. They drop randomly, so there is a possibility that you have to click a lot to get one.
Very rarely they also drop from battles, but personally I find it even more difficult to get them from battles than from nurturing (:

I'm not sure if you have checked the trade broker, but there are some that are a lot lower than 70k. It depends on the type you are looking for. By searching for "essence" in the broker, the lowest that is currently coming up is a Draeyl essence for 12,500.
