I know you said you'll be changing up the wardrobe system when the site revamps, but I don't know what those changes will be or when they will happen, so in the mean time...

Often when I'm changing up my avatar, I find myself frowning at the Backs layer because I have to choose between having a tail, having a cape, or having an actual backdrop, even though there are no apparent layering issues with any of those types of items. It may just be my ignorance on the coding because I don't why those items were all put on the same layer, but I see no reason why Celebration Confetti couldn't exist on a separate layer behind a Lupora Tail or why Talon's Cloak couldn't exist behind a Ligara Tail, seeing how there are also no layering issues between Talon's Cloak and Water Pearl Wings.

Basically, I want to be able to wear Nereid's Fin, Creatures of the Depths, and a Priest's Cape at the same time for maximum awesome. If I'm going to spend my time/money collecting cool pixels, by god, I want to see as many of those cool pixels at one time as possible!

I mean if we have a layer for wings why not tails and capes.

I agree - I would love for the revamp to allow for more combinations rather then "Back" items being a catch-all.

I do think it should also be much clearer which parts of the wardrobe are for items which can only be purchased through the wardrobe with AP/diamonds and which parts the items we use from our inventories will go to. I feel like they should be separate areas entirely, really, which might hopefully allow for more sections in the "wearables/tradeables" section to allow for better layering.

I'd love separations for wings, cloaks, other back accessories, backgrounds (since those are getting popular), background props, ears/head items and glasses, so on and so forth. o:
(Definitely seems like a handful, but it'd be cool. Also quite cluttersome, but it does give more freedom to have some of the stuff separated!)

100% support! I often find myself having to decide between several different backs for an avatar when seems like it wouldn't be too bad to have several layers.

They could all still be lumped into one group but maybe have "back layer 1" and "back layer 2", etc. That would make it so we could use several and layer them as we liked, which I think would also reduce the hassle of implementing this feature.. admins wouldn't have to sort and decide what can be worn with what, and what adjustments need to be made where. Of course, not everything will work well with each other but it would definitely open a lot of new avatar possibilities.
