the application process

Before you can begin writing on the site, you must have a character that is considered acceptable. This is actually very easy, especially when this is a fantasy site so we allow quite a lot of character designs. However, to make sure everyone is on the same page definitely read this guide, and for those of you that need help making a character and filling out the application, check out the links we gave and tips for filling out the various part of the application.

choosing the basics

GENDER.
Do you want a boy or girl? It's a crucial choice to make. The gender decides where your character fits in society. For most animals, males tend to be physically stronger and have a more dominant hierarchical role than females. On Vitality, males get more freedom than females, even if the female is already an adult or elderly woman.

NAME.
Your character will need both a first name and a surname. The surname can be as big of an emphasis to the character as you want, and they are a way to track your character's family. Children born on the site tend to be given their father's surname. For help picking a name, don't be afraid to ask other role-players on the site or use baby naming resources on the internet such as Baby Names World, Baby Names.com, Think Baby Names, and Name Berry.


SPECIES.
What type of animal is your character? You can do any species that is real or closely extinct (so like in the last 100 years of extinction)


AGE.
The age must be in seasons. If your character is too young, it will limit it's rank options. If too old, it won't be at peak health/shape or able to have children.

2 MONTHS The child starts to grow in height and weight rapidly, and is usually weaned, able to walk, and talk. He/she can be traded, claimed, invited or stolen to empires/clans, and is eligible to be ranked as an Apprentice in the empire.
3 MONTHS Begins to make a hierarchy among other kids, and practices play fighting more aggressively.
5-7 MONTHS It will officially have its adult teeth fully grown, and practice hunting and patrolling the homeland.
1 YEAR It will be labeled a teenager. It reaches its full height and 3/4 of its full weight, and slowly begins to gain more weight and muscle. It can be trusted with empire/clan responsibilities.
1.5 YEARS It is eligible to be ranked as a Prefect in the empire.
2 YEARS It will be labeled an adult. It reaches its full weight and usually mental maturity, along with being sexually mature and able to breed. It can lead an empire/clan and have any rank, while males are able to leave an empire/clan whenever they wish.
6.5 YEARS Labeled an elder. It can no longer produce children, and its body and mind begins to deteriorate.


To play a child, you'll need to know how many months old it is to figure out what season it would be. Below is a chart that lists up to what age the character must be or turning in each season. The first number is the minimum age in months they must reach before the season is over, and the second number is the maximum age they can reach.

0 SEASON 0 - 2 months 1 SEASON 3 - 5 months 2 SEASONS 6 - 8 months
3 SEASONS 9 - 11 months 4 SEASONS 12 - 14 months 5 SEASONS 15 - 17 months
6 SEASONS 18 - 20 months 7 SEASONS 21 - 23 months 8 SEASONS 24 months or older


BIRTH SEASON.
What was season your character born? This is related to their age. Each IC year is made up of four (4) seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter; in that order. Any character that is exactly a year, 2 years, 3 years, etc. old must be born in the current season Vita is on; so this means 0, 4, 8, etc. seasons old. Depending on what season they are in age, they may be born in the previous season or seasons after Vita's current one. Below is a chart to help you figure out the birth season is based on their age.

Xylandia is a mysterious land, in a different time and place to anything we know of. It is inhabited by many different species. These animals appear out of some mystical, coloured pools of water, from another demention.

The game starts in the first year that the animals start appearing, and from there, the story is in your hands. But why are you sitting here reading this? There are kingdoms to claim, alliances to be made, romances, battles, and stories to write!

Xylandia is what I would like to consider more of a "sandbox game", where you are welcome (and encouraged!) to experiment with things. Go crazy coming up with different relationships, communities, species, and even lands and kingdoms... it's all waiting for you!

In short: if you want to play a roleplay where you can help create the history and story, rather than have it all set out, then this is the game for you!
