I'm having this problem with using GIMP; every time I turn pressure sensitivity on for my tablet, it makes the strokes lag two seconds behind at least, and 30 at the worst. I'm using a Wacom Intuos tablet, GIMP 2.8, and my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I could decrease/eliminate the lag time while keeping pressure sensitivity?

Hm, maybe try working on a smaller canvas, lower res canvas, smaller brush, or a harder brush?

big, hi-res canvases create lots of lag, and if your brush is super big and soft that absolutely kills it.

i stopped working with Gimp regularly when i started using Sai, so while i have more experience than those who hate the program, i still didn't get too far in finding all the pieces. Actually, trying it right now, i have no pen pressure whatsoever?

hold on, let me mess around awhile. try the first stuff in the meantime, maybe. 150 dpi should be good for resolution.

alright, internet says it might be that Color management is turned on, which is the main cause of brush lag.

turning it off...
Edit > Preferences > Color Management > UNCHECK "Try to use system monitor profile"

see if that works, else I'll keep looking for you!

Its kinda time sensitive, I have a webcomic page I'm trying to complete by friday, and I just can't make the lineart or anything. (might as well just draw it in a sketchbook and scan it in)
I turned the whole color management thing off a while ago when I ran into other issues.
Im using a 8" by 11" canvas and the pencil tool.
Thank you for trying to help! (maby I forgot to update stuff again, time to ckeck)

alright, about to get offline for the night, but let's see...
-this link is for optimizing gimp for your computer, might help.
-someone said installing this non-official version of Gimp 2.8.1 should help. Dunno if you're allowed to install/change programs but yeah.

otherwise, an update might be good, not sure if there is one available but yeah. good luck! if you can't figure something digital out, i've had plenty of experience in editing scans and even photos of traditional stuff, that much i can tell you about!
