I would really like a general reference on how much certain things seem to 'go for'.
For instance, what is the base price for each breed? What about the added price for a female/male? What about certain traits?

I've seen people name numbers like a couple thousand per certain things, but I honestly don't know how to even begin to do so and as such I've been forced to release several valuable sylesti because I really don't want to sell them too low or too high.

Help please?

Generally your more expensive pets are going to be themed pets, meaning they came from a festival or the wheel of dreams and are either tagged or offspring of tagged. Wheel pets are worth more than regular festival pets, fabled pets are more expensive than the regular kinds.

Price can also depend on how many gps a pet has (carried traits of visible ones) for example a 1 carry Coal Griffi may be sold for 7-10g where a 6 visible trait Coal Griffi may go for hundreds of thousands.

What you can do is poll different members of the community with the list you had about how they each price their pets:

Ryori - base amount
Female + amount
Male + amount (or not)
Certain traits / number of traits + amount
then the same for the other breeds?

Then after you get enough submissions, make an average base price, then post it as a general thread. You can call it a guide or etc, but it's befitting to make it its own thread.

The poll can be like:

Hi, I wanted to ask how you price your pets, if based on a certain criteria! I'd like to make a basic price guide to follow when pricing pets.

For each species, please put the gold amount that you price the pet next to each pet, and how much more you add to the price based on the criteria, thank you!

------------------------------
Aeridini: Base Price: ____g

Gender:
If female: +_____g
If male: +_____g

Genotypes:
If it has 1 trait carried: +_____g
If it has 1 trait visible: +_____g

if needed, you can set different criteria, such as if a 6vis pet has different price than adding increments

Colors:
If it is muddy*: +_____g
If they're desirable colors: +_____g

*insert definition of muddy here

Project:
If it is a finished project pet: +_____g
If it is a project fail pet*: +_____g

*insert definition of project fail pet here

Themed/tagged/etc:
If it is a wild-caught themed pet*: +_____g
If it is a wheel pet**: +_____g
If it is an offspring of a themed pet: +_____g
If it is an offspring of a wheel pet: +_____g

*insert definition of wild-caught themed pet here
**insert definition of wheel pet here

Other:
If there is a certain exception, please add here, and include the additional price added.

------------------------------

and so on for each species.

further suggestions:

I would emphasize getting at least 20 polled members, particularly ones of peeps who already sell pets with some varied success. You don't have to poll them for each species, maybe ask them to do the species of pets they specialize in, or fill in the parts they can apply to.

This sort of thing does sound like it may have to be watched over time. At the moment, since there's no standard of how people price pets (and there are people who don't want to have a standard cherry-picked price for them), basic prices can fluctuate.

While this may help several players, I would exercise caution. I can imagine a breeder or a pet seller setting a certain price for something, and another player may say "oh but the standard price of this is _____" and use the guide for reference. Maybe attach to the guide that it's JUST a guide, and not meant to dictate prices for all players -- that players have the freedom to price pets however they want.

This is a good idea overall.
