I'm just wondering if anyone knows of any good free 2d digital animation applications for computers. I've already tried Pencil and Pencil2D, but they both have these annoying glitches and its nearly impossible to make a color palette. Another one I've tried was Vectorian Giorotto (or something like that), but it would always have this horrible wobbling effect that caused headaches. All the better ones I've been able to find have either been expensive/cost money, or are extremely outdated/undownloadable.
So, anyone know of any 2D animation programs?

I personally animate 2D with a mix of Paint tool Sai, Gimp, and Windows Movie Maker. (Not fancy stuff haha)
Because I hate gimp, (I'm weird I've only ever liked Sai,) I generally storyboard the animation in Sai, and depending on if gimp and I get along at the time I'll finish it up there. If not, I finish up the frames in Sai and put it together in Movie Maker. The key for that is to take your Frames per second, (I use anywhere from 12 frames to 32 frames across both my 2D and 3D animation,) and split each stack of frames per second into a fraction of a second per frame.
I'd give you some example of my animations used with those programs but I don't generally keep them longer than a few weeks because I'm a judgie person. .-.

The only programs I've used for animation are Adobe Photoshop, Adobe AfterEffects and Autodesk Maya. Maya is 3D and PS and AE are both expensive... so I'm assuming none of those would help. GIMP is not intuitive at all but it is probably your best bet (though I've never animated with it, it's probably a nightmare)...
If you end up.... "obtaining".... Adobe PS or AE I could definitely help you with those. :)

GIMP is a true nightmare to animate in....but not as bad as pdn or corel painter lite. The closest thing I have to photoshop is photoshop elements 5 or 7 (honestly I forget and its so out of date).
I'm going to learn more 3d animation/modelmaking over the summer, (my current abilities are making boxes, flashlights, and blobs) so I guess I'll keep Maya in mind for that. (as well as blender)
Thanks for the help offer, if i somehow get PS (I might be getting the $10 a month subscription thing), I'll ask you (and others) for help. (since evryone seems to have PS)

Autodesk Maya is also an industry standard very expensive program (last I knew), but I haven't worked in 3D much so I don't know other software for 3D.
The creative cloud subscription is actually $20-30 per month. I have the subscription because it's essential I have all of Adobe's tools for college. I have a lot of experience using the creative suite. It isn't just a hobby, it will be my career (some day I'd like to be Adobe certified). So don't hesitate to ask any questions. :)
Good luck with your art!

In school during computer programming class we were taught to use the ancient edition of scratch they had. Scratch is like a simple, free edition of flash, in a way.

Ya. The new version is easier to use, along with there being an online community on the website. (Scratch.mit.edu) My user name is allosaurusrock. I had an unfortunate typo on this account.
